JAMES "MIKE" ADAMS

Coach Representative

2009 Inductee

     Coach Adams coached and taught at South Terrebonne from 1961 to 1992.  He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1955 and Southeastern La. University where he lettered three years in football at the linebacker and fullback positions.  He also lettered four years in track and field as a sprinter  for the Lions track and field team.

     Graduates of ST remember Coach Adams fondly for his Biology class and his 31 years in education.  He coached football at ST from 1962 to 1985 and also was the head coach from 1981 to 1985.  Coach Adams led the track and field team from 1971 to 1981, leading it to its only State Championship in 1973.  Coach Adams was Athletic Director at ST from 1982 to 1986.

ROY ARMSTRONG

1967 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout basketball player from 1963-1967 and baseball player from 1964-1967, where he received all-district honors in both sports.  He assisted in leading the 1967 Gator Basketball Team to the state semi-finals where they dropped a very closely contested 2 point decision to Bolton High in Rapides Coliseum.

     After high school, Roy went on to play baseball for the Cowboys of McNeese State University in Lake Charles from 1967-1969.  He was an honorable mention Gulf States All-Conference player in both 1968 and 1969.

THOMAS JOHN BOUDREAUX, Sr.

1979 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Thomas, better known as Tommy, was a three year letterman in both track and field and football.  He earned All-District honors in both sports, along with being named AAAA All-State in football as a defensive back.  On the track, he ranked second in the state in 1979 in both the 120 yard high hurdles and the 180 yard low hurdles.  Tommy was selected as the STHS J. Kenneth Walker Award winner as the top student athlete for the Gators in 1979.

     After graduation, Tommy went on to compete for the LSU Tiger football team, where he was a three year letterman in the Tiger defensive backfield.  He was selected as the MVP Defensive Back in the spring of 1980, and, along with fellow Hall of Famer Lionel Wallis, participated in the 1979 Tangerine Bowl.  Tommy also participated in the 1983 Orange Bowl.

RICKY BRITT

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Ricky lettered in football for three years, track and field for two years, and both baseball and basketball for one year.  He was an All-State and All-American performer in track for two years, along with being All-Regional and the the Most Valuable Defensive player in football in his senior year.  Ricky was a member of the 1973 STHS State Champion Track team and the nations fastest 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams on the high school level along with inductees Melvin Johnson and Robert Lagarde and with Herman Verdin.

     After high school, Ricky went on to play football at LSU in 1973 and 1974.  His playing career was cut short when he suffered and ACL injury on a punt return in the 1974 season.

KENNETH CENAC

1971 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Kenneth lettered in football for three years and track and field for two years.  He was a three year All-District selection in football and has the unique honor of being one of only 3 players in the history of the top division of high school football (which was AAA at the time) to be named both All-State on the offensive and defensive side of the ball as a lineman.  Kenneth was also named to the High School All-American Team and participated in the LSU All-Star Game.

     After high school, Kenneth went on to play football at Nicholls State University.

COLONEL LYNN CHAMPAGNE

1970 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Lynn lettered in football and baseball for three years, and basketball for two years.  He was an All-District pitcher for three years and was named the districts Most Valuable Player in 1970.  He was also an All-District selection in football in his senior year as a place kicker.  Lynn was the 1970 recipient of the J Kenneth Walker Award as South Terrebonne's Most Valuable student athlete.

     After high school, Lynn went on to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he competed on the Midshipmen baseball team for four years, lettering two of those years.

RICHARD CURLIN

1976 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Richard was a two year letterman in both football and track and field, after moving to the East Houma area from Tallulah, La. at the start of his junior year.  He earned All-District honors in both sports in his junior and senior years.  He held the Bayou District Record in the shot put for three years and was a state qualifier for two years.

     After graduation, Richard was a four year letterman and starter on the offensive line for Nicholls State University.  Richard has served as the Head Football Coach at ST since 1990.  Richard led the Gators to the Class AAAA State Championship in 1991 defeating Crowley High School 14 to 12 in the Louisiana Superdome.  He now holds the record for most wins at STHS, surpassing another Hall of Famer, Buddy Marcello.

PAT DUPLANTIS

1965 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout football player from 1961-1964, and excelled in baseball and track and field from 1963-1965.  In both his junior and senior years, Pat was voted most outstanding lineman for the Gator Football team.

     After high school, Pat received an athletic scholarship to play football at Northeastern Louisiana University, now known as UL-Monroe.

THOMAS "SKIPPY" EZELL

1978 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Skippy was a four year letterman in football, and a three year letterman in both basketball and track and field.  He was an All-District selection for three years in football , All-District two years in track and field, and All-District one year in basketball.  Skippy was selected as a AAAA Honorable Mention All-State member at quarterback.  He still reigns as the all-time leading passer in STHS history with 181 completions for 3473 yards.  He also holds Gator Football records for most career touchdown passes, 36, and most passing yards in a single season, 1333 yards in 1976.

     After graduation, Skippy went on to Grambling State University where he lettered four years at quarterback and punter for the Tigers.  While at Grambling, he was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year in 1978, and was named the SWAC Chevrolet Player of the Week five times in his career.

BRUCE GUENIOT

1964 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout football player for the Gators and in the sports of baseball and track, earning All-District honors as a senior in all three sports.  Chronologically, by graduation date, Bruce is the first former student to be inducted into the ST Athletic Hall of Fame.

JAMES 'DAVID' HARWELL

1967 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout basketball player for the Gators from his eighth grade year in 1962 all the way through to 1967.  He was also a member of the 1967 ST Track and Field team.  He was a leader on the Gator Basketball team that advanced to the semi-final game in Alexandria against Bolton High in 1967.  Along with multiple first team All District honors, and All-State honors in his senior year, David has the distinct honor of being named the first All-American ever at ST for his efforts on the basketball court.

     After high school, David played basketball at Nicholls State University.

ROLAND HENRY

1968 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout football player and track and field athlete for the Gators from his eight grade year in 1963 all the way through to his graduation.  He was an All-District performer in football in 1967 and in track and field in both 1967 and 1968.

     After high school, Roland went on to star at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he led the Bulldogs , now Ragin Cajuns, in rushing for the 1970 season.  He was also named to the All Gulf States Conference team, led the GSC in scoring, and was the GSC's Most Valuable Offensive player.  He competed on two GSC Championship teams.

MELVIN JOHNSON Jr.

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Melvin lettered in football and track and field for all three years here at South Terrebonne.  He was a three year All-District selection in track and field and a two year All-District selection in football.  In his senior year, Melvin was named to the All-State and All-American teams in both football and track and field.  Melvin still holds school records in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was the State Champion in both events in 1973.  Melvin was a member of the 1973 STHS State Champion Track team and the nations fastest 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams on the high school level along with inductees Ricky Britt and Robert Lagarde and with Herman Verdin.

     After high school, Melvin signed a scholarship to play football and run track at the University of Colorado.  He played football for the Buffalo's from 1974 to 1977, lettering all four years for Coach Bill Mallory.  In 1980, he signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.  Before he could play a down for the Chiefs, his life was cut short when he died of complications during surgery on a wrist injury sustained in the spring of that year.

     Melvin's jersey number 40 was retired here at South Terrebonne High School in 1997.

RONALD JOHNSON

1970 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Ronald lettered in basketball for four years.  He was a multiple All-District selection and was named the Most Valuable Player in the district along with being an All-State selection in his senior year.  Ronald was the first African-American student to participate in team sports in the Terrebonne Parish School System following segregation (1967 STHS Basketball Team).

     After high school, Ronald went on to play basketball for Pasadena City College in the Los Angeles area, where he was named to the All-City Junior College Conference Team in 1971.

ROBERT 'BIP' JOSEPH

1974 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Bip was a three year letterman in both baseball and basketball.  He was a two year All-District selection in baseball and was selected to the 1974 All-State Baseball Team,  He also was a one year All-District selection in basketball.

     After high school, Bip went on to play baseball for Nicholls State University where he received All-Gulf South Conference honors as an outfielder in his junior and senior years.

ROBERT LAGARDE

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Robert lettered in track and field for three years, and both football and baseball for two years.  He was an All-District selection for his two years in football and was selected to the All-State football team as a wide receiver in 1972.  He was a three year All-District performer in track and field and was named to the All-State and All-American High School Track Teams in his junior and senior years.  He still holds the school record in the 400 meter run.  Robert was a member of the 1973 STHS State Champion Track team and the nations fastest 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams on the high school level along with inductees Ricky Britt and Melvin Johnson and with Herman Verdin.

     After high school, Robert signed a scholarship to play football and run track at the University of Colorado.

JESSE LECOMPTE

1968 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     He was a standout football player for the Gators from 1965-1967.  He has the dubious honor of being the first Gator football player ever to be named All-State on both offense and defense as a lineman on both sides of the ball.  In 1968, he was named the most valuable lineman in the Louisiana State All-Star game in Baton Rouge.  Jesse also was an outstanding track athlete and was a member of the baseball team in his junior year.

     After high school, Jesse went on to star at USL from 1968-1971.  In his freshman season, he was an All-Gulf States Conference member at the center position.  He also competed on two GSC championship teams.

BRYAN LIFE

1975 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Bryan was a three year letterman in football, track and field, and baseball.  He was a two year All-District selection in football, and a three year All-District selection in both baseball and track and field.  In 1974, he was honored with being named the Terrebonne Parish Athlete of the Year along with receiving the J. Kenneth Walker Award as STHS's top student athlete.  He was a member of the 1973 STHS State Champion Track and Field Team, and held the Gator long jump record until the late 1980's.  Bryan also helped lead the Gator Baseball Team to two district titles.  He was selected Homecoming King in 1975.

     After graduation, Bryan went on to pitch for the Nicholls State Baseball Team, lettering for three years and he earned All-Gulf Coast honors in 1980.

LUCAS 'BUDDY' MARCELLO

Coach Representative

2008 Charter Inductee

     Coach Marcello was the first athletic director, head football coach, and the first head baseball coach here at ST when the school opened in 1961.  He remained as head football coach and athletic director all the way through his retirement in 1981.  Prior to his coaching tenure at South Terrebonne, Coach Marcello served as head football coach at St. Francis (now Vandebilt Catholic) from 1950-1961.  He led the Terriers to the State finals in Class A in 1957, 1958, and 1959.  His 1959 team defeated Delhi 7 to 6 to record Terrebonne Parish's first high school football State Championship.  On the 4A level, he led South Terrebonne to multiple district titles in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  His Gator team of 1972 made it all the way to the semi-finals before falling to Airline High in Shreveport.  Coach Marcello was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1986.  He is also a member of both the Terrebonne High and Vandebilt Catholic Hall of Fames.  The stadium at Vandebilt Catholic has been named in his honor.

     He is one of the select group of coaches who has ever won 200 games on the high school level in Louisiana.  His overall record in his 31 years of coaching is 205 wins, 105 losses, and 12 ties.

MICHAEL NIETTE Sr.

1969 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Michael was a three year letterman in both football and track and field, earning All-District honors in both.  He was a State AAA qualifier in both the long jump and the high jump.  

     Upon graduation, Michael went on to compete in both sports at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches for two years, lettering one of those years.

BARRY PELLEGRIN

1976 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Barry was a three year letterman in baseball.  He was a two year All-District selection as a pitcher and was the District Most Valuable Player in 1976.  He led the Gator Baseball Team to the AAAA State Quarterfinals, where the Gators lost a heartbreaker to Jesuit High School at Alex Box Stadium on the campus of LSU.

     Upon graduation, Barry went on to Nicholls State University, where he earned four letters on the Colonels Baseball Team as a pitcher.  He was an All Gulf Coast Conference selection as a pitcher in his junior and senior years.

CURTIS PELLEGRIN

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Curtis lettered in football, track and field, and baseball for three years.  He was a two year All-District selection as a linebacker in football and threw the shot put on the 1973 State Champion Track and Field Team.  Curtis was the 1970 recipient of the J Kenneth Walker Award as South Terrebonne most valuable student athlete.

     After high school, Curtis went on to play football at Hinds Jr. College in Jackson, Mississippi.  In 1975, he was the captain  of the Eagles football team and was named to the Mississippi Jr. College All State Team.  He was also named Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Mississippi Jr. College All Star Game.

DANNY PRICE

1965 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     Danny was the first four sport letterman ever at ST.  He was a stellar football, basketball, and baseball player for the Gators along with being a standout athlete in track.  He lettered in all 4 years that he participated in football, basketball, and baseball and for 3 years in track and field.  He was a three year All-District performer in football, a two year All-District performer in basketball, baseball, and track and field.  In his senior year, he was named to the Louisiana All-State track and field team.  He won the J. Kenneth Walker Award in 1965 for being the top student athlete at ST and was homecoming king in his senior year.

ALMA RICHARD

Teacher Representative

2009 Inductee

     Mrs, Richard, a 1939 graduate of LSU, was the head of the Girls Physical Education Department from 1961 to 1984.  She was also the sponsor and advisor of the Carnival Tableau and Student Council.  Mrs. Richard was very supportive of all athletics at South Terrebonne, contributing in any manner necessary, although girls athletics did not come onto the scene until the mid to late 1970's.

PAUL ROCHE

Teacher Representative

2008 Charter Inductee

     Mr. Roche was an integral part of athletics at South Terrebonne.  During his teaching tenure at the school from its inception in 1961 to the 1974-75 school year, the Mamou native never missed a sporting event.  He assisted coaches and athletes in any capacity deemed necessary.  Mr. Roche tragically passed away while still teaching at South Terrebonne in the mid 1970's.  Since 1989, the award for the top female athlete here at ST has been given in his name and honor.

LEROY SIMMONS

1971 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Leroy lettered three years in football, two years in baseball, and participated one year in both basketball and track and field.  He was a three All-District selection in football at the running back position.  Leroy still ranks as the fifth all time leading rusher in South Terrebonne history with 2291 yards.

     After high school, Leroy went on to play football at Nicholls State University, where he was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player for the Colonel's in their initial season of organized football in 1971.

BURNELL THOMAS

1977 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Burnell was a three year letterman in basketball and a two year letterman in football.  He earned All-District honors for two years in basketball and one year in football.  Burnell was an intregral part of the STHS District Championship Team of 1977 and was named the District's Most Valuable Player in his senior year.

     Upon graduation, Burnell went on to compete in basketball at East Mississippi Community College.

STEVE TROSCLAIR

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     Steve lettered in football in his senior year, his only year  attending South Terrebonne High School.  He was an All-District and All State selection in football that same year.  Before his senior year, Steve attended St. Joseph Catholic High School in Chauvin where he was an All-District and All-State performer on the Single A level in both his sophomore and junior seasons for the Black Knights.  He transferred to ST when St Joe's was closed in 1972.

JAMSEL 'JOE' VEDROS

1967 Graduate

2008 Charter Inductee

     Joe is also known as "The Bayou Bullet".  He was a standout football player for the Gators from 1964-1966.  In his senior year, "The Bayou Bullet" became the first Gator football player to rush for 1000 yards in a season.  He was an All-District selection in football and track and field as he excelled in track and field from 1964-1967.  Joe was a homecoming duke and was king of the Krewe of Emeralds carnival tableau in 1967.

     A highlight in Joe's high school years was the opportunity to participate with his brother Blaine, a graduate of ST in 1969, who was also a stellar athlete and went on to Northwestern State University on a track and field scholarship.  Joe went on to play football for USL in 1968 and 1969.

KENNY WALLIS

1979 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Kenny, younger brother of fellow Hall of Famer Lionel Wallis, was a two year letterman in basketball and football.  He earned All-District honors in senior year in both sports.  He was an integral part of the STHS District Championship Football Team of 1977 and was named the District's Most Valuable Player in his senior year.  Kenny currently ranks fifth all-time in career receptions at ST and fourth all-time in reception yardage

LIONEL WALLIS

1977 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Lionel was a three year letterman in basketball, and a two year letterman in football.  He was a two year All-District selection in basketball and was named a High School All-American in his senior season.  He still ranks in the top five in STHS history with over 1000 points scored in his basketball career.  in football, Lionel was the Bayou District's Most Valuable Player in his senior year, and garnered AAAA All-State honors.  He was selected to the Louisiana All-Star Football Team at the receiver position.  He still ranks in second place as the all-time leader in receptions at ST.

     Upon graduation, Lionel went on to letter four years as a wide receiver for the LSU Tigers from 1977 to 1981.  He had the honor of starting for the Tigers in the 1977 Sun Bowl, the 1978 Liberty Bowl, and the 1979 Tangerine Bowl.

GEORGE WASHINGTON Jr.

1973 Graduate

2009 Inductee

     George lettered in football for three years, and baseball for two years.  He was an All-District selection in football and baseball and was selected to the All State Baseball Team in his senior year.  He was also voted as the baseball teams Most Valuable Player in his junior and senior years.

     After high school, George served a four stint in the US Army, with stops in Japan and Korea.

CYNTHIA WHITFIELD-PELLEGRIN

1976 Graduate

2010 Inductee

     Cynthia was a two year letter winner on the State Championship Gymnastics Team here at South Terrebonne in 1975 and 1976.  She has the unique distinction of being the first female to be inducted into the STHS Athletic Hall of Fame.  Cynthia was Louisiana's Best All Around Gymnast in 1976
